A Special Meeting of the Great Lakes Region was called to order by Gary Veach, at the direction of Regional Director Liz Watson. In the absence of Regional Secretary Rachel Anger, the minutes were taken by Linda Sartori. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the disparity between the Canadian dollar and the U.S. dollar, and the hardships this causes to our Canadian exhibitors. A general discussion was had about the problem and some possible remedies. For example, on August 22, 1998, the Canadian dollar equals $1.54 U.S.

Ken McGill inquired about how many Canadian entries the U.S. clubs are receiving. The elimination of the phrase in the CFA Show Rules "coin of the realm" was discussed. It was suggested that we should address club issues and personal issues separately. Some areas of concern are show licenses, litter registrations, cat registrations, yearbooks and club dues. Canadian shows need to remain viable. Judges should use air miles for hard-to-do shows. Judges could book through Canadian Travelers to save air fare. Canadian exhibitors could be offered a free double cage (would not cost the club anything). Friskies needs to move around to different clubs. Why do they sponsor just one show every year and not move it around to other shows.

Best wishes were expressed to Liz Watson from the Canadian representatives of the Great Lakes Region for success as our new Regional Director.
