The meeting of the Great Lakes Region was called to order by Regional Director Liz Watson. In the absence of Regional Secretary Rachel Anger, the minutes were taken by Beth Holly. Director Watson opened the meeting with a discussion about the upcoming October Board meeting agenda.
Regarding Show Rules. The following proposed show rule changes were discussed:
- "Registered" kitten. [failed]

- Rule 6.06 regarding advertised judge versus contracted judge. [passed]
- Responsibility of exhibitor to verify receipt of entries prior to closing date. Timely submission of entries to avoid catalog addendums.
- Rule 15.09 regarding a processing fee for each cat added or causing an addendum, payable by the clubs not to be passed on to exhibitor. [passed]
- Rule 16.06.1 regarding a processing fee of $100 if electronic disk is not included in show package. [passed]
- Rule 17.06 regarding end of row benching in show ring for handicapped exhibitors. Discussion about speed of motorized vehicles.

- Rule 31.01 regarding AOV. Article XXXII identifies AOV status.
Non-Show Rule Discussion: The location of kitten/cat for regional wins was discussed.
Kittyhawk Proposal: Kittyhawk Felines wants to hold a one-day, six-ring show. Special dispensation is required and has been requested from CFA. [passed] Should have success criteria and how to measure the success of the format.
Great Lakes Great Cats Proposal: CFA has received an application for membership from a proposed club. This group has no plans to put on a show, but wishes to sponsor Maine Coon rings at shows, fund Maine Coon research and promote health seminars. Discussion took place about a Great Lakes Region Cornish Rex breed club application that was denied membership several years ago. There was also discussion that a CFA vote is not needed to promote a breed. [failed]
Further Discussion: The concept of one member, one vote was discussed. Whereupon the meeting was adjourned.
Next Regional Meeting -
The next regional meeting will be held at the Cleveland Persian show on 1/15/00. A tentative agenda for that meeting will include discussions of items to be considered at the Board meeting in February, Treasurer's report, new club application, 2001 annual report, Regional show report. I hope all clubs will have a representative(s) at this meeting.
NEW CLUB APPLICATION
Discussion: On the membership of the Great Lakes Great Cats Club was tabled until the February Board meeting because of an officer resignation resulting in an incomplete application. I am re-issuing the information on it that was included in the last newsletter.
I am in receipt of an application for Great Lakes Great Cats Club to be considered for approval at the October Board meeting for membership in the GLR. It's breed interest is "Maine Coon breed activities only" with the intent to "sponsor an annual specialty ring, operate a web site, hold meetings to discuss club business and Maine Coon health, welfare, showing, breeding & standards issues."" This club intends to ""promote existing clubs' shows by holding meetings & sponsoring specialty rings at them. We will likely work with many different clubs over time, in seeking to provide specialty ring activity and promote sportsmanship and fellowship among Maine Coon breeders and exhibitors in the Great Lakes Regional area. We do not wish to sponsor our own shows." The club presently lists over 100 members.
Again, any club or individual that wishes to comment regarding the efficacy of this club is asked to do so in writing & send the comments to New Club Application Department in care of CFA. In accordance with the Constitution, negative information regarding the applicant will be provided to the applicant wit enough time for the applicant to prepare a rebuttal prior to board consideration.
