MINUTES OF GREAT LAKES REGIONAL MEETINGOCTOBER 9, 2004Niles, OH Loretta Baugh called the meeting to order during the lunch break at the Regional Qualifier. Secretary's Report - Joel ChaneyA lot of information is being posted and updated to the Great Lakes Region Website. Thanks to Karen Lawrence for her hard work. The website address is www.cfagreatlakes.org.
Since the last Regional meeting, we sent out ballots on judges for the 2005 Regional Awards Show. Votes were received from 42 of the 78 Region IV Clubs. Results of the voting for Judges at the 2005 Regional Award Show were:
The CFA Board voted to discontinue the Regional Qualifier in 2005 and to modify the rules for entry in the International Show in November. With very short notice, a ballot was sent to club secretaries on whether to continue holding a regional fundraiser on the date of the qualifier or to turn the weekend over to another club. Responses have been received from 31 Clubs. Interim results of the Qualifier voting will be presented later during open discussion of the Qualifier weekend. Financial Report - Chuck GradowskiChuck presented the report prepared by the Regional Treasurer, Chris Simpson. The report does not include all of the income and expenses for the Regional Qualifier. In addition, the final reconciliations from the prior treasurer have not been completed. The Ace 50/50 and Lucky 13 Raffles have been successful. The Regional received significant donations and ring sponsorships for the Qualifier. Committee ReportsScheduling - Sandi Douglas Sandi reported that things are working smoothly. She has been in contact with her counterparts in adjoining regions so that clubs don't book shows to close together. Loretta reported that the CFA Board turned down club applications at the last meeting because we have so few show dates available. Planning - Eve Russell Eve asked for suggestions from individuals and clubs. She suggested that we hold a potluck lunch at the Regional Award show if the facility will allow it. Donations - Mariane Toth Mariane thanked all of the clubs and individuals for supporting the Regional Qualifier. She reported that the Region received sponsorship for all of the Rosettes and received ring sponsorship so that the stewards and clerks will be paid. She has started working to obtain sponsorship for the rings at the annual award show and for the Awards. Loretta reported that sponsorship of the awards was very successful this year. Individuals donated to sponsor all of the individual awards at the Banquet. Fundraising - Nancy Grandison (Jerry Kithcart, Carol Haydu)
A suggestion from the floor was to allow individuals to enter the raffle as long as they specify the club that will receive the Toys. There was a positive response from regional exhibitors and the Toy Maker (Wayne Mull) agreed with the concept. Nancy will be emailing the CFA lists and clubs about the Toys Raffle. Sunshine Committee - Joe Lentner The Sunshine committee was established to communicate with exhibitors that are ill or need a lift in spirits. Joe will be sending out cards and letters. So far, he has only sent out one card, let him know what is needed. He is listed in the CFA White Pages. (email - jlentner@rochester.rr.com) OPEN DISCUSSION - October 2005 show date - Loretta Baugh Loretta reiterated that the CFA Board voted to discontinue the Regional Qualifier in 2005. This permits the Region to use the show date to either hold a regional show or turn the weekend over to a club. Comments from the floor ranged from continuing the Regional Show to help pay for the 2008 Annual to turning the date over to a club. Someone suggested that the Regional Show be moved to a 5th weekend and the qualifier date be returned to a club. Another option was to plan for a Regional Show in 2005 while a fair & unbiased decision is made on selecting which club would receive the show date. Loretta indicated that the final decision on the qualifier date would be made by vote of the Regional Clubs. Make you opinions know and make sure your club votes. Joel Chaney reported that ballots have been returned from 31 of the 78 Regional Clubs. So far the response have been about 60-40 to return the show date to a club. Joel will be sending out a reminder to the Secretaries so that their club's ballots will be returned by the next Regional Meeting. Loretta formed a Committee (Norman Auspitz, Joe Lentner, and Nancy Grandison) to recommend criteria and priority for assigning the Qualifier Date to a Club should the Region vote to not hold a fundraiser on the date of the Qualifier weekend. Overview - 2008 Annual - Jo Ann Cummings Jo Ann again asked for suggestions for the centerpieces. The suggestions should not include Roses. The facility can't refrigerate the 60 dozen roses, volunteers would have to spend all day preparing the centerpieces, and most people would set the flower centerpiece on the floor so that they can see the program. Jo Ann also reported that another region (Region 1) stole our idea using a cooler in place of the delegate bag and for the carnival theme. Other Highlights from the CFA Board Meeting Loretta report that the Board voted to recognize the National Top 25 in Kittens and Premiership as well as in Championship starting this year. Our region will also recognize the Top 25 in each category. The Board also voted to include breed points in calculating the National and Regional standings starting in May 2005. Next Meeting The Buffalo Cat Fanciers have agreed to host the next Regional Meeting. The meeting will be at their show in Hamburg, NY on Sunday, 11/28/2004.
